It was only recently that the association between food and arthritis was made. Research has shown that food is a powerful tool. It's time you understood which healing foods for arthritis are a must.

Now food is no more a miracle cure than any thing else but nutrients are a great way to boost your immune system which will decrease arthritis inflammation. So what should be in your diet?

1. Tea
Let's start with green tea which has been shown to fight arthritic inflammation. It contains polyphenols which reduces inflammation. If you prefer black tea that's okay because it contains the same chemicals to protect your body.

Instead of grabbing for a cola or a cup of coffee why not sip on a cup of tea. Studies have shown that if you drink tea regularly your bone density will be better and the antioxidants will keep you healthier.

2. Grapes
We all know that snacking on fruit is a healthy choice but grapes contain resveratrol a non steroid that blocks inflammation at the cellular level. It blocks COX-2 just like prescription drugs do. So grape snacking is a very wise choice.

3. Vegetables
Diets high in vegetables reduce the amount of inflammation and thus symptoms. A vegetarian diet has a different fatty acid profile than other diets. The elimination of animal foods from the diet has shown substantial reduction in pain and inflammation.

4. Glutathione Rich Foods
Broccoli is a very powerful antioxidant and detoxifying agent. Other foods high in glutathione include peaches, watermelon, grapefruit, avocados, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, asparagus, tomatoes, and oranges.

5. Fish
Omega 3 fatty acids which are found in cold water fish has been proven to play an important role in inflammation. Eating at least two servings of fish each week will reduce your risk of getting arthritis by nearly 50%. For those already suffering it will provide a reduction in pain and inflammation.

When purchasing fish ensure that the source is safe and that they are not toxic. Mackerel, tuna, or swordfish all have issues with mercury.

Eat bluefish, anchovies, dogfish, herring, mackerel, sardines, salmon, tuna, sardines, whitefish, and capeline.

6. Pineapple
Athletes have been using pineapple for years to support injury healing. Recent studies have indicated that the bromelain enzymes in pineapple reduce arthritic pain and inflammation.

7. Olive Oil
Studies have shown that eating large quantities of olive oil and cooked vegetables reduces your risk of arthritis by half. This may be because of the high concentrate of unsaturated fatty acids. Interestingly raw veggies didn't provide the same protection.

8. Soy
Studies have shown that soy reduces both pain and swelling in rats. How this translates to humans isn't entirely understood yet but it's a great start.

9. Eat Protein
You should eat as least 1 gram of protein for every kilogram of body weight to ensure protein that is lost from inflammation is replaced.
10. Flavonoids
Foods rich in flavonoids are powerful antioxidants. There are more than 4000 compounds in the flavonoid family all with a vital role to play in reducing inflammation

There are many healing foods for arthritis. Experiment. Find out which ones work for you and then stick by them. Sometimes we look for too complicated of solutions when they are right in front of our face. And what could be more natural than food?
